Lucknow, Oct 17: An explosion at a soap factory godown in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, claimed the lives of four individuals, an official stated.

District Magistrate of Meerut, Deepak Meena said, “The explosion occured due to an impact in a soap manufacturing godown and according to the confirmation received by us four people have died in the incident.”

He also stated that the other injured individuals were in a stable condition and not at risk of severe harm.

Initial reports indicated that the event had injured five people.

Visuals captured at the scene revealed extensive devastation caused by the explosion, leaving the affected area in ruins.

“Prima facie, the impact was caused in machinery, probably due to some chemical used in it, the exact reason is still being ascertained,” the District Magistrate said.

“So far there is no relative or anyone else to identify the deceased so prima facie, it seems that the deceased were labourers working in the godown,” he added.

The deceased were all male and more than 18 years old, the Meerut DM further added.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, acknowledged the incident and instructed officials to promptly arrive at the scene, a statement issued by the chief minister’s office said.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has offered his sympathies to the grieving families of the deceased.

As per the official statement, the chief minister has directed district administrative authorities to promptly transport the injured to hospitals and ensure they receive appropriate medical care.

The official statement mentioned that CM Yogi also conveyed his best wishes for the swift recuperation of the injured individuals.
