New Delhi, Nov 10: India had asserted that they had altered their strategy for T20 cricket, but none of it mattered when England defeated India by a margin of 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval in the semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup to advance to the championship match against Pakistan.

England chased down 169 with 4 overs and 10 wickets remaining thanks to the merciless bowling of Alex Hales (86 not out) and Jos Buttler (80 not out). Buttler gave Bhuvneshwar Kumar a clear indication of his intentions by stepping down the pitch, which prompted Rohit Sharma to put wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant forward to the stumps. Three boundaries from Buttler in the opening over set the tone for England’s breathtaking chase in response.
Over the past two years, India and England have played each other in two bilateral T20I series, both at home and away. India also triumphed in those series, but on a significant Adelaide night, the past was irrelevant.
What important was England’s strategy for this match. The phrase “approach” is used frequently in this study, but there is a good purpose for it. The team management did advertise their new “strategy” after they were eliminated from the T20 World Cup the previous year.
India wasn’t simply punished for their lack of intention. They also paid dearly for not playing a wristspinner when given the chance and for mistaking Rishabh Pant for Dinesh Karthik.
