Ranchi, Oct.20: Mystery continues over the violent agitation of Mahatma Gandhi’s followers, Tana Bhagats, as the Jharkhand High Court, which took suo moto cognisance in the matter, deferred the hearing till November 11.
The situation came after the chief secretary and DGP, who were expected to file a report on the matter by today, did not file a report and the court granted time to file the same after Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan requested for the same.
The court took suo moto cognisance of the matter based on media reports. According to the media report, Tana Bhagats resorted to violence on October 10 and injured five policemen including Latehar Sadar police station in-charge Amit Kumar Gupta by pelting stones. They also damaged a police PCR van. They were so angry that the police had to use lathi, tear gas and water cannons to control them by dispersing their agitating mob.
The incident took place in Latehar civil court campus where Tana Bhagats had assembled demanding closure of court as according to them courts are not supposed to run in a fifth schedule area. Other than the officer-in-charge Gupta, those who sustained injuries in the incident included constable Satyanarayan Oraon, Kumari Amit Lakshmi, Anju Rose Khalkho and Manorama Kumari.
