Daltonganj, Sept 20: As count down has begun for the October 14 convocation of the Nilamber Pitamber University, a wordy duel between a senior teacher and a senior assistant over the issue of making ‘stock entry’ of items for the volunteers of the NSS has emerged, according to university sources.
Sources said the alleged exchange of hot and improper words between the senior teacher and senior assistant was, however, contained well in time by the prompt intervention of University Registrar Dr Rakesh Kumar and the issue was just near reconciliation when on September 19, GLA college and post-graduate teacher’s association held a meeting and resolved to launch a stir on this issue.
According to the press release issued under the signature of the secretary of this association Dr Shailesh Kumar Mishra, teachers will wear black badges for two consecutive days beginning September 20. On September 23, teachers will hold a sit-in on the university campus if disciplinary action against the senior assistant is not initiated by then. The association has also demanded ‘stringent disciplinary action against the senior assistant.
The press release further claimed the concerned senior teacher has provided his letter of resignation from the post of the university coordinator of the NSS to this association which the concerned teacher claimed to have given to the university already while there is no word about acceptance of his resignation by the university.
The alleged incident took place on September 15 and the association took 4 days to hold a meeting on this issue on September 19 displaying solidarity with the concerned teacher. According to sources, the time elapsed between the alleged incident and the meeting of the teacher’s association points to an attempt to keep it alive and circulating which will not benefit either the teacher or the assistant.
The non-teaching employees also have come out reiterating that ‘respect and dignity are no monopoly of the teachers only but it is a property of even the non-teaching personnel and it has to be taken care of by the teachers.’
Sources said the situation is no daggers drawn between the two sides at this juncture but if the university takes it any lightly then its ramifications may be larger than expected.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of NPU Dr Deep Narayan Yadav when contacted for his comment on the development of the alleged incident said, “We will look into this. The alleged incident was patched up. How it is now being raked up, we will try to solve this.”
The alleged incident is stirred at such a time when the university is running against time to conduct the second convocation.
Proctor cum university spokesperson Dr K C Jha said that on the day of the convocation (October 14), the university looks forward to the inauguration of its multi-crore administrative building christened as Kautilya Bhavan by the visiting chief guest the Jharkhand Governor and Chancellor Ramesh Bais.
“Our professor in-charge of the YSNM college Daltonganj Dr Mohini Gupta and her team are working on the list of the invitees for the October 14 convocation,” Dr Jha said.
