Ranchi, Sept.23: Amid suspense taking the opinion in a sealed envelope sent by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to Jharkhand Raj Bhawan on August 25 over the disqualification issue of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Governor Ramesh Bais today stunned media persons by his reply on the matter.
“lifafa intna chipka hai ki khul nahi raha hai (envelope is so affixed that it is not opening),” said governor Bais in a lighter vein when a section of media persons asked him regarding the matter in the envelope.
The situation came when the governor had gone to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to participate in Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Those present on the occasion included Rajya Sabha member Mahua Maji, Lok Sabha member Sanjay Seth, state health minister Banna Gupta and principal secretary of health department Arun Kumar Singh.
When contacted state health minister Gupta for his comment on the reply, he refused saying the ‘governor is a respectable person’ and it will ‘not be proper’ for him to comment. He, however, said the governor, who remained a parliamentarian for seven terms, has every right to joke.
Rajya Sabha member Maji without commenting on the reply said that the suspense should be cleared taking the content inside the envelope.
Earlier during his speech on the occasion, the governor talked about eradication of TB from society saying it is not a big deal if people take committed action to ensure that patients take regular medicines. He said it is necessary to make people aware of symptoms of TB and its complete treatment. On this occasion, he also distributed ‘Ni-Kshaya Aahar’ among TB patients.
The governor said that there was a time when people suffering from TB were thrown out of the settlement but now the disease can be cured by staying at home and paying a little attention. He said that TB can happen to children, young people, women, men and old people.
The governor said that there is no need to panic about taking TB as it is curable if medicine is taken regularly. Along with this, the governor also asked to take care of nutrition and cleanliness and to stay away from smoking and intoxication. He asked the doctors as well as the intelligentsia to pay attention towards making people aware about it.
The governor informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a pledge to end TB disease by 2025 and has taken several initiatives to accelerate the campaign being run in the country for TB eradication.
