Pakur, Nov.27: Low visibility along with the possible rash driving claimed four lives including drivers and cleaners of two transport vehicles that caught fire after a head-on collision near Kadva village under Littipara police station of Pakur district early this morning.

Police have, by the time of filing of this report, managed to pull out the dead bodies of three of the four deceased who were burnt alive after the vehicles they were trapped inside, collided and were engulfed by a massive fire.

Attempts were being made to pull out the fourth deceased as soon as possible. All four victims are yet to be identified.

“The whereabouts of the owners of both the vehicles are being traced to identify the deceased which have been almost charred,” the officer in-charge of the Littipara police station Abhishek Rai said, adding that fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire.

Both the vehicles, including a truck and a hyva, were coming from opposite sides which were respectively laden with cement and stone chips.

“The way the dead bodies were trapped inside the vehicles, which could have been pulled out only by using iron cutters, suggest that at least one of the vehicles was moving at a rash speed despite low visibility caused by the fog,” the OC added.
