New Delhi, Nov 13: The former prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, is expected to return to the nation shortly following the change in the country’s administration, ending his self-exile in London since 2019.

The rumour that the 72-year-old leader would be returning to the nation intensified after the PML-N-led Pakistani government allegedly granted him a diplomatic passport.

According to a PML-N party insider with knowledge of the situation, Sharif will ultimately return in December, but the long-awaited homecoming won’t indicate the government’s intentions to give in to Imran Khan, the leader of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, who has called for early elections.

According to media reports, the three-time former prime minister will lead his party in the upcoming national elections.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister, has pushed for new elections to be held before the current National Assembly’s current term expires in August 2023. After a resolution of no confidence was approved against him in April of this year, Imran Khan was dismissed from his position.

Since being removed from office by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case in July 2017, the 72-year-old leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has been the target of several corruption cases brought by the government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
