Patna, Dec 30: The BJP in Bihar announced on Friday that Rajib Ranjan, one of its vice presidents, had been fired for indiscipline, a sign of the potential chaos into which the party may have descended after losing the state’s executive branch.
Shortly after Ranjan asserted that he had resigned from the main membership, the party distributed a letter to that effect written by state unit president Sanjay Jaiswal and dated December 29.
Jaiswal admonished Ranjan for continuing with giving statements that went contrary to the party line, ignoring warnings given orally, according to the letter.
“Your utterances have been unbecoming of a state vice president and also adversely affect the party’s reputation. You are hereby relieved of your post and suspended from the party for six years”, said Jaiswal.
It’s interesting to note that the party delayed making the letter public until Friday afternoon, when Ranjan said the party had become ‘infected with individuals hostile towards Dalits and OBCs.’
An outspoken leader, Ranjan served as the assembly representative for Islampur for two consecutive terms in the JD(U) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar before switching parties in 2015.
He recently humiliated his party by criticising the BJP for vehemently demanding compensation for those who lost their lives in the Saran district hooch disaster in a remark made in personal capacity. This had led to rumours that he would be considering making amends with the chief minister who had yanked the rug out from under the BJP by leaving the NDA and joined the Mahagathbandhan over six months prior.
The state BJP is extremely embarrassed by the development, which occurs just before national president JP Nadda’s first trip to Bihar since losing the election on January 3.
