Jamshedpur, Dec 1: A 21-year-old dreaded criminal was on Wednesday sent to Ghaghidih Central Jail along with his associate for committing a serial crime on Tuesday evening.
Sheikh Asfaque who has emerged as a terror in the steel city had stolen a bike from Jubilee Park in Bistupur last evening before snatching a mobile phone from a woman at Kadma, stabbing a teenager while snatching his smartphone in Bistupur and finally stabbing a 34-year-old man to death in Mango by late in Tuesday evening.
Asfaque and his associate, Mohammed Sarique (19) were incidentally caught by local residents at the murder scene and had been handed over to the police after a thorough thrashing. The police rushed the two to the MGM medical college hospital for treatment and after they recovered from the injuries, they were sent to jail this evening.
Senior SP, M Tamil Vanan produced both the arrested criminals before the media and said that they would ensure that Asfaque may not get out of the prison in near future.
“A resident of Gausnagar at Kapali in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district near Mango, Asfaque had been arrested four times earlier for committing grievous crime. After being sent to jail each time, he managed to come out of the prison. We have, therefore, decided to take stern action against the bailer who is helping this dreaded criminal in getting the bail, ” said Vanan.
The senior SP said Asfaque had demanded the murder victim, Arvind Singh, to pay him money near a country-made liquor shop in Mango Chowk.
“Arvind was known to Asfaque, but as he refused to oblige, the criminal fished out a knife and stabbed him repeatedly, causing him to be fatally injured and was declared dead at the MGM medical college hospital, ” said the senior police officer.
Vanan said the teenager who was also stabbed by Asfaque is a close relative of DSP (Headquarters-II) Kamal Kishore. He said the victim is undergoing treatment at the Tata Main Hospital.
The police have recovered the stolen bike, snatched mobile phone and the knife from those arrested.
