Dumka, March 24: A massive drive of site inspection of all the 48 stone quarries situated in the Shikaripara circle area of Dumka district has been underway so as to ensure whether they are operating under the set norms or not.
The drive, which is the first of its kind in the district, however, has sparked large scale panic among the lessees of stone quarries who the district administration believe to have been indulging in flouting the terms and conditions laid down by the mining department while handing over them the mining leases.
The lessees of the stone quarries, according to sources, are more worried about the administrative move for excavating stones in areas situated beyond the allotted lands, and its revelation during the site inspection will result in the slapping of huge penalties on the violators apart from suitable legal action against them all.
“We have been provided with a checklist to conduct the site inspection of stone quarries to inspect different aspects of mining activities with the inspection of the mining areas of respective units figuring on the top,” said an official who is a member of the 10 team constituted by Deputy Commissioner Ravishankar Shukla.
Shukla had himself took all the ten inspection teams to the Shikaripara block headquarters on Wednesday when he went through the files of all the mining leases.
This apart, the inspection teams to be accompanied by videographers, have been directed to look into other issues, including the procurement of explosives and mode of its uses, issuance of e- transporting Challans, implementation of labour laws and last but not the least the implementation of pollution norms.
