New Delhi, April 1: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday that India can play the role of mediator between Moscow and Kyiv because the two countries’ peace negotiations have yet to produce a solution to stop the war.
“India is important country. If India sees to play that role which provides resolution of problem. If India is with its position of just and rational approach to int’l problems,it can support such process,” said Russian Foreign Minister to ANI on possibility of India becoming a mediator between Moscow and Kyiv.
Lavrov, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for a two-day official visit, praised India’s independent foreign policy and discussed a variety of issues with Indian officials, including US pressure on the country, rising energy prices, and Russian sanctions.
When asked about the situation in Ukraine, he was further chastised for referring to the special operation as a war.
“You called it a war which is not true. It is a special operation, military infrastructure is being targeted. The aim is to deprive the Kyiv regime of building the capacity to present any threat to Russia,” he said.
He also responded to the question that how he views India’s role in the continuing conflict, the promise of oil to India, and any confirmation on Rupee-Ruble payment and sanctions.
“If India wants to buy anything from us, ready to discuss and reach mutually acceptable cooperation,” he said, adding “We will be ready to supply to India any goods which it wants to buy from us. We are ready to discuss. Russia and India have very good relations,” said Lavrov.
