New Delhi, Dec 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened and laid the cornerstone for a number of construction projects totaling more than Rs 4,350 crore, in Agartala on Sunday.
The Grih Pravesh programme was also introduced by Prime Minister Modi, who came in Agartala on Sunday, for recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural.
These homes, which were built at a cost of over Rs 3,400 crore, will benefit over 2 lakh people, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The project to widen the Agartala bypass (Khayerpur-Amtali) NH-08, which would assist relieve traffic congestion in Agartala city, was officially launched by the prime minister with a focus on enhancing road connections.
Under PMGSY III (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana), he lay the cornerstones for 32 roads totaling more than 230 km in length as well as for the upgrading of 112 roads totaling more than 540 km.

The State Institute of Hotel Management in Anandnagar and the Government Dental College in Agartala were also opened by the prime minister.
PM Modi performed a roadshow in Agartala earlier on Sunday. To welcome the prime minister, crowds of people gathered on both sides of the street. He also showered his cavalcade with flower petals.
