Ranchi, Oct.1: The electronic surveillance, which has helped the police in Jharkhand capital for prevention and detection of crime, will be improved further.
Dy SP (city) Deepak Kumar who has additional charge of control room informed this saying the police have installed as many as 600 CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations across the city and this has yielded good result in prevention and detection of crime. Seeing its effectiveness, a proposal has been sent to the headquarters to install 427 more CCTV cameras.
“Once the number of CCTV cameras gets installed, surveillance from old Ranchi to greater Ranchi will become easier as there is a team of 30 police personnel to monitor the footage collected from CCTVs,” Dy SP Kumar said.
A police official, however, expressed his disagreement with the number of CCTV cameras.
“All the CCTV cameras hardly work properly. Many times it has been observed that cameras do not work properly and officials know about the same only when they need footage to detect the crime,” the police official said.
“For proper use, a camera of high resolution is required. Apart from this, digital video recorders should be properly maintained. Position of the camera should also be changed from time to time to ensure that anti-social elements do not know about it. This exercise is hardly done,” the official said.
When asked about the same, the DSP said: “CCTV cameras are technical materials and getting sometimes defunct are not unusual. The camera is very effective and has helped solve many crimes in the city. In fact, it helps the police get clues.”
