Ranchi, June 1: Local parliamentarian and chairman of Birsa Munda Airport advisory committee Sanjay Seth on Wednesday asked the Birsa Munda International Airport officials to let common people know about services being provided at the airport.
Seth was presiding over a meeting of the advisory committee at the airport. In the meeting, several other major issues including expansion of passenger facilities, and expansion of cargo facilities were discussed.
Seth on the occasion inquired about the fruits and vegetables going from Ranchi to other cities in the meeting, in which it was informed that about 22 tonnes of peas, beans and litchi are being sent from Ranchi to different cities every day.
“Litchi is being sent daily to cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore, while vegetables are being sent to cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad,” airport officials said.
On this, the MP said that to establish coordination with the farmers in this area and the airport’s wide publicity should be spread among them so that the farmers can get their vegetables directly to the airport without middlemen.
MP Seth asked the officials about the status of cold storage to be built at Ranchi airport. On this, he was informed that work of setting up a cold storage capacity of 5 metric tonnes is under process and will be completed by December.
Seth on the occasion also gave instructions to carry out CSR activities to ensure that those displaced due to the development of the airport should not feel neglected.
Other directions that Seth gave included proper planning for zero-logging during the rainy season, proper arrangements to reach passengers to their vehicles without getting wet during rainfall, considering air service to Darbhanga, Varanasi, Raipur, Bhubaneshwar, a separate arrangement outside the airport for reception and press conference besides others.
Members present during the meeting suggested proper updating of the airport website, an alternative arrangement for entry in case of a crowd, sharing information regarding air ambulances to common people, marking one lane of parking, and developing the village around the airport.
Airport Director K.R Agarwal, Advisory Committee members Bhanu Jalan, Chhavi Virmani, Ramprasad Jalan, Umesh Shankar Rai, representatives of various airlines, and local administrative officers were present at the meeting.
