Ranchi, Sept 20: The MLA MP Court is hearing 16 cases involving MLAs and MPs in the state capital.
CBI counsel informed the Jharkhand High Court of this through an affidavit in response to the court’s direction in a PIL demanding the expeditious disposition of cases involving state MLAs and MPs.
It was claimed that there were up to 18 cases involving MLAs and MPs pending before the court as of the start of this year. Two of the 18 cases, involving former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad and former Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey, have been resolved, while the remaining 16 are still pending.
The CBI stated that one of the two closed cases was related to Bandhu Tirkey’s disproportionate assets (RC 5A/2010). On March 28, 2022, a special CBI court concluded the case. Another case involving Lalu Prasad was the fodder scam (RC 47 A/ 96). It was completed on February 15, 2022.
It is worth noting that this occurred during the hearing of a public interest litigation involving MLAs/ MPs in the state before a division bench led by Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Dr Ravi Ranjan.
